Seeing the country 26.2 miles at a time
Our 50 State Marathon Journey
When we toed the Start line at the Chicago Marathon in October 2004 with the “check running a marathon off the Bucket List” goal to run a single marathon, little did we know that it would eventually transform into an odyssey to run 26.2 miles in all 50 states.
Looking back on that life-changing day in The Windy City, we had no idea that 15 years later we would have traveled to every corner of the United States, met countless new friends, and discovered our purpose by Running4 others while raising over $200,000 for pediatric cancer charities.
And until cancer is defeated, we will keep running.

Following the cancellation of the 2020 St. Jude Memphis Marathon, a group of dedicated runners, led by Nolan Henderson and inspired by his son Grit, ran a 26.2-mile course from Aunt Netter’s Cafe in Lecompton to Jefferson’s on Mass Street in Lawrence in what was dubbed the “Team Grit Marathon”.
